If you are into fine jewellery like me, you will fall in love with LIL Milan.
The founder of LIL Milan and her idea
Veronica Varetta, class 1992, was studying Economics and Art at Cattolica University in Milan when she started picturing LIL Milan in her mind.
She was struggling to find fine jewellery in solid gold that wouldn’t cost a fortune and could be worn every day. That’s what LIL is about: fresh designs and great craftsmanship at reasonable prices.
Every piece is made of solid gold
Every piece is made in 9kt or 18kt solid gold (NOT plated!). I personally prefer the pieces in 18kt yellow gold because they match my jewellery pieces from Missoma London.
As you know, I’ve got quite a few pieces from Missoma but, even if they are still in great conditions after years of use, I always need to be extra careful: since they are plated with 18kt gold vermeil, they could get ruined if I was constantly wearing them.
I do no need extra anxiety in my life! This is why I was looking for fine jewellery in solid gold that I could wear every minute of every day without worrying.
My LIL Milan collection
Boys Tears chocker
I bought their best selling piece, Boys Tears, along with two Lightly rings. The Boys Tears choker is a delicate necklace available in four lengths (33 cm, 35 cm, 37 cm, 39 cm) and two types of gold (18kt yellow gold and white gold). The closure features a cute LIL Milan logo.
I chose the yellow gold version at 35 cm length because I enjoy layering necklaces, and this length is perfect to keep the Boys Tears choker as one of the shorter layers.
I LOVE IT. It’s so fine and dainty and it makes me feel put together even when I’m wearing gym clothes! I’m planning to buy the Nude Choker very soon, followed by the Glow ring.
The Boys Tears costs 250€, but it’s solid gold and is designed to last forever. Also, did you know that gold is a safe-haven asset? This means that its value doesn’t lessen in case of a general price increase in times of economic uncertainty. Also, you can enter in the coolest club in town: the Boys Tears Club!
Nude rings
This purchase was Sarinski‘s fault. They are two solid gold soft rings so light that you can’t feel them on your fingers. I haven’t taken them off since they arrived!
The way the gold catches the light creates a beautiful shimmer. I’m completely obsessed with these rings.
By the way, I store all my jewellery in this small Estella Barlett travel box (picture above), after selling my huge Stackers Classic set.
Should you go for white or yellow gold?
Rossella Migliaccio, an Italian colour analyst (well known in Italy for its book about “armocromia”), would be proud of my explanation: the choice between white and yellow gold depends on your skin tone and undertone. The general rule is:
- Warm tone = yellow gold
- Cold tone = white gold
I love the subtle look of yellow gold on me, even if I’am a Winter girl.
