I tried a semi – permanent mascara (72hrs!): yay or nay?

If you’re into beauty and makeup, you will probably know that the Lancôme Semi Permanent Mascara I’m about to talk was released 3 years ago. I wasn’t attracted back then but my mom recently bought it, so why not give a try and report back to you?

What I expected:

  • Black & defined lashes;
  • No dirty cushion after a night sleep;
  • 3 days last.

What happened:

  • As soon as I applied the first coat, the lashes separated easily but I didn’t notice any volumizing or lengthening effect. They were just more black.
  • After two hours, lashes remind me of spider lashes, all clumped together. They stayed this way for 6 hours.
  • I took a nap and nothing was changed after, but when I woke up I was not comfortable and I really wanted to take off my makeup. I resisted.
  • 9 hours later I removed this mascara with Garnier Express 2in1.

My impression is that this mascara is like an ordinary waterproof mascara, nothing special and for sure you won’t resist 72 hours!! Would you be able to not remove your makeup for that long? Plus, the effect is not even close to fake semi permanent eye lashes.

The price is 35€, crazy for what it does (ehmm barely nothing). Available in Sephora.

Have you ever tried a semi permanent mascara?

  • Ciglia nere e definite (non appiccicate tutte insieme);
  • Nessun residuo sul cuscino dopo una dormita;

  • As much as I love makeup, I don’t think that I could leave anything on for that long. I love nothing more than taking my makeup off after a long day!

    Danielle xx

  • I have never tried makeup that lasts for that long! I think I would want to take it off!

  • Aru89

  • I can’t imagine wearing a mascara for longer than a 12 hours! My eyes would go crazy!!

    • I thought you could barely feel the mascara with this “semi permanent formula” but no!! It was even worst than my usual mascara. :\

  • I.

    Buon weekend Cate 😉

    • Io l’ho provato solo perché l’aveva comprato la mia mami, mi sembrava già una cavolata! Possiamo decisamente farne a meno. 😀

  • I’ve never tried but out or saw any reviews on this product so it’s nice to see and know your thoughts! I was hoping it would have worked out better since the concept is very interesting. I have lashes that always need help but I don’t want to get lash extensions. Anyways great review!

    • Same!! I want to get lash extension sooner or later, but they’re quite expensive and you need to be careful with them so I’m gonna live without them for now. Unfortunately this mascara was not a good replacement : have a nice day xx

  • Shelise Saddul

    I didn’t even know you could get semi-permanent make up but I don’t really like the thought of it as I love the feeling of taking my make up off and being able to wipe my eyes! ha x

  • I don’t think I’d like this mascara. I rarely wear mascara (mostly because I use false lashes most of the time) but when I do, I just can’t wait to take it off. Sometimes when I fall asleep with mascara on, I wake up regretting it so much the morning after because of how uncomfortable it is!

    • I love false lashes but I’m lazy so I don’t wear them on a daily basis but I’m dreaming of lashes extension!!! 😀 have a nice day hun x

  • that seems so crazy expensive for something that doesn’t really seem to be working very well! will swerve!

  • That’s some crazy promises for 35 euro!!
    Becca | theBeautyInbox

  • Oh gosh! How disappointing! This would have been such a good mascara if it had worked! It’s a shame, especially considering the price

    • Luckily my mom paid for it, otherwise I would have been even more frustrated! Have a nice day x

  • Jocelyn K

    so weird! I had no idea that something like this even existed! That’s also crazy expensive for something that doesn’t work super well. Interesting post, though!

    • I think the only way to have beautiful lashes as soon as you wake up is lash extensions. If only it wasn’t expensive and high – maintenance :

  • Yiotou_La

    I think you could achieve this result with any drugstore mascara, it is super expensive and there are other mascaras that work the same! Love your photos!! x

    • Thank you <3 I was really disappointed but luckily I didn't have high hopes 🙂 have a nice week xx

  • Semi permanent mascara?! I didn’t even know there was such a thing lol! Such a pity it doesn’t work so well. Have a great week ahead! x

  • Charlie Wainwright

    Didn’t even know there was such a thing!

  • Never tried a semi permanent mascara but I also love my drugstore mascaras. haha

    • 99% of mine are from Maybelline!! Just because a product is quite cheap it doesn’t mean it’s not good. 😀
